There were 11th century same-sex “brother-making” rites which were basically same-sex marriages. The Catholic rite was called the Ordo ad fratres faciendum.
And 4th century Saints Sergius and Bacchus are a well-known same-sex coupling united through the rite of Adelphopoiesis. Again, it was essentially same-sex marriage.
The Orthodox Church isn’t terribly keen on this interpretation these days, but the historical evidence is pretty solid. It is basically contested on the grounds of “Eww gay people, yucky!” I mean that literally. I had a debate with a very learned Antiochian Orthodox person and that was the heart of her argument.

He wrote me a letter and I wrote him one. We read each others notes at the same time while seating in his truck. My heart was racing the whole time. Oh my gosh I am so tired of sharing a room with these two! I just can not escape! I am so tired of having to hear about their problems, I am so tired of their attitudes, I am so tired of their complaining, I am just so tired of them! I don’t know how much I can take anymore. Oh my gosh my mother thinks she never does anything wrong! She is always right and perfect. I am so annoyed. Oh my god just stop talking to me. I am going to explode. Get me out of here. Just shut up. Can I please leave now? Oh my god your life is just sooo horrible huh? You know you have a house, food, your family, a job. There is people out there with no family, no shelter, no food, and still have a smile on their fucking faces but one thing goes wrong and your life is just horrible. This wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t share a fucking room with them. They make me want to blow my fucking brains out. And this stupid fucking cigarette smoke keeps burning my freaking eyes but no they don’t care of course. “it is not that easy to just quit” well 1. you should not have fucking started 2. at least have the respect to not fucking smoke in front of me! Your fucking son has asthma and you still have your fucking smoke blowing in his face. I am so tired of all this. I want to say the good things that have been happening but they are pissing me off so fucking much. It is 9:55. I have school tomorrow. I am walking. But I can’t go to fucking bed because they have the light on, they are smoking, and complianing about their lives together while yelling at me and talking about why I am in a “bad mood.” just shut the FUCK up. So tired of this.
